Teaching procedures:
Step 1 Greetings and lead in
1. Greet the whole class as usual
2. Focusing on the title of the article, ask students to complete it.
Q1: What information can you get from the title?
Q2: What else do you want to know? (How/ when/ where the boy was missing, why are the police puzzled?)
Q3: Are you curious about why the title is an incomplete sentence?
Q4: Do you know it is a feature of a news title? What are some of other features of a news title?
Step 2 Fast reading
1. Ask students to skim the passage and do part A.
2. Scan the passage and answer the questions on part C1 together.
Step 3 Detailed reading
1. Ask students to read the first paragraph together and find the information why, when, who, what, where and how the boy is missing.
2. Ask one student to read paragraph 2 and find the main idea(Justin Foster went missing) and the supporting details.

教学反思
这次校“创新杯”教学比赛我的课题是牛津版模块二第一单元的reading部分。这单元的主题是关于科学未解之谜的话题,该课题本身很开放,个人都会有自己的想法,需要学生充分发挥自己的想象力和运用课内外的知识来表达观点。其中这篇Reading讲的是一个失踪小男孩的故事,这个事件引起了人们的广泛关注。因为他的失踪据说和外星人以及UFO有关。就他的失踪,警察展开了调查,但最终没有任何肯定的答案。
这种科幻类话题很能引起学生的兴趣。但是在教学方面,这篇Reading却无法做到像Welcome to the Unit 那样做到轻松愉悦。因为有很多教学任务需要完成。不仅要让学生清晰的了解文章的中心意思以及解决遇到的生词及短语,还需要学生掌握如何阅读英语报刊新闻,推而广之,怎样写一篇英文报刊新闻。
在文章一开始我用了一系列奇景的图片作为导入来吸引学生的注意力,在开始Reading时,让学生注意它的标题和图片来猜测文章的大致意思。通过分部分讲解让他们大致了解文章结构,为新闻阅读策略做好铺垫,接着用一系列让学生融入其中的task-based activities帮助他们更好的掌握文章中心意思。在他们掌握这篇新闻的基础上教会他们英语报刊新闻阅读的策略。文章的最后为了激发他们对外星人话题的兴趣,更重要的是锻炼他们的口语,我设计了Discussion部分,让他们讨论“A strange dream even a nightmare.”或者“If you were taken by an alien ,what would you do?”
由于缺乏教学经验,在问题的处理上还是会遇到一些细节问题。在各个部分的过度时不够自然。学生做讨论时,对于一些口语很差的人无法有效的使他们也融入讨论之中。学生不知道该怎么回答时,用怎样的方法才能激发他们的潜能。每一次的公开课或教学比赛都会从有经验的教师那得到许多宝贵的意见,学习他们在教学中的宝贵经验帮助我在今后的教学中不断的提高。
